- The October National Geographic has a feature article 'Through The Eyes of the Condor: An Aerial Vision of Latin America' written by Marie Arana, (editor of the Washington Post Book World and author of American Chica). Arana wrote about this assignment in January in the Washington Post.
- The September 12 issue of Environmental Science and Technology includes 'Tracing Increasing Tropical Andean Glacier Melt with Stable Isotopes in Water' by Bryan Mark and Jeffrey M. McKenzie which reports that "glaciers in the tropical Andes are undergoing rapid retreat with potentially devastating consequences for populations who rely on them for water resources." The easier-to-read accompanying press release by Erika Engelhaupt reports that "Peru's Glacier Meltdown Threatens Water Supplies.'
