Remembering Faucett OB-1303

"The case in which searchers failed to get either black box was that of a Boeing 727 owned by Faucett, a Peruvian airline, that crashed off Newfoundland in 1990, apparently because of lack of fuel, killing all 16 aboard."   New York Times, by Alexei Barrionuevo and Matthew L. Wald.

This Faucett-owned airplane, OB-1303, had just finished being wet-leased to Air Malta.  It crashed during its flight back to Peru according to a contemporaneous account in Flight International and the New York Times.  

There is some internet speculation about the cause of the plane's crash - and it is noteworthy that The Times uses "apparently" as the investigation is inconclusive as there was no evidence of the downed aircraft.
