Though quake news tapers off as Mario Testino's photograph of Diana hits the society pages (including the Washington Post), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs released their 'Earthquake OCHA Situation Report No. 13'.
Luis Horna was defeated yesterday in the second round of the Men's Singles in the US Open by Nicolas Almagro, 6-4, 6-2, 2-1 (US Open) but Peru's U-17 team in Korea plays in the quarter finals tomorrow.
Apparently investors and politicians are willing to ponder a railway from Paita, Peru to Cruzeiro do Sul, Brazil perhaps forgetting the type of Amazon topograph in northeastern Peru.
And the Houston Chronicle's Eileen McClelland has a series of travel articles focused on Cuzco and Lima.
GENERAL QUAKE UPDATE:
The Houston Chronicle has a series of travel articles by Eileen McClelland posted almost simultaneously including articles on Cuzco and Lima.

While updates on the earthquake and the corresponding response and relief continue to receive much press (including a Princess Diana connection), today's news contains a lot of economic news including rumors of the sale of Wong to a Chilean company and a Bloomberg report saying the China may ramp up their investments in Peru.
On a celebratory note, Peru's Luis Horna moves forward at the US Open.
GENERAL NEWS:
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) offers several detailed maps. The main map accompanies the UN's aid appeal and shows the response and still unmet needs in the region; other maps are of the Community Kitchen Locations in San Clemente as well as Camp Locations in Chincha. In Spanish, they provide a map of Local Populations and Infrastructure in Ica.

"The lives of a group of young migrants in the city of Lima seem like the flotsam scattered haphazardly on the shore. They live in the city but cannot become part of it. They are forced to live by their wits; they have no other choice than to persevere... and to hope. This documentary is a fresco depicting the diaspora of thousands of migrants in search of better lives that are unavailable in their places of origin. In the city, however, they face inequality, racism, and exclusion, evils that still infect Peruvian society. 'Beached' makes visible these pioneers who, with their effort and their dreams, have transformed the capital of Peru." In Spanish, see a review in RPP
